QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Police Department is reminding residents of local golf cart regulations following a surge in complaints regarding underage and reckless operation.
Police Chief Dalton Turmell says he has multiple complains of individuals under the age of 16 driving carts dangerously through village streets.
According to official village regulations, all golf cart operators must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid driver’s license. and must strictly obey all traffic controls, ride exclusively on the right side of the road, and keep golf carts off all sidewalks.
Turmell says his department has also addressed ongoing issues regarding golf carts traveling along US-12.
He emphasized that golf carts are strictly prohibited from driving on or along the side of US-12 at any time, except when directly crossing at intersections to reach a village side street.
Golf Carts are only permitted to operate during daylight hours, specifically from one-half hour after sunrise to one-half hour before sunset, and must never exceed a speed of 15 mph.
While village-operated carts do not require standard auto insurance registration, drivers must still comply with state signaling requirements and avoid roads with speed limits exceeding 30 mph.
Anyone with questions questions is urged to contact the Village Office at 517-639-9065.
