COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -Coldwater city residents will see a $2.50 reduction in their monthly trash bills starting July 1, , following a newly approved waste management contract.
The Coldwater City Council Resolution No. 26-69, which updates the local rate structure after Republic Services of West Michigan won the competitive bidding process for the city’s 2026–2029 refuse, recycling, and large item collection.
This agreement extends a municipal relationship that began in 2012 when the city first transitioned away from municipal garbage collection to private contracted services.
City Of Coldwater Finance Director Tom Eldridge talks about the new rates
Eldridge said there would be a 5% increase in both the second and third years of the new contract but even that would still be below the current rates.
The comprehensive service package ensures that despite the lowered costs, residents will continue to receive uninterrupted trash pickup, recycling services, and large item collection through 2029.
