WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP (WTVB) – A two-vehicle traffic crash in White Pigeon Township, , claimed the lives of two Illinois men on Saturday.
According to St. Joseph County Sheriff Chad Spence, deputies responded to a personal injury accident in the area of Eagley Road near Lake Road.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound vehicle, driven by a 68-year-old male from Riverside, Illinois, was turning onto Eagley Road when it was struck by a northbound vehicle.
Both the driver and his passenger, a 75-year-old male from Orland Park, Illinois, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 37-year-old female from White Pigeon, survived the collision.
Emergency personnel transported her to Three Rivers Health to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
While investigators believe that speed was a contributing factor in the fatal wreck, the accident remains under active investigation.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office was assisted during the emergency response by the Michigan State Police, White Pigeon Police Department, White Pigeon Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, and St. Joseph County Central Dispatch.
