COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater police say a 21-year-old Coldwater resident was killed Monday night during an altercation at a Coldwater meat processing plant.
In a release Coldwater Police say Brandon Eduardo Velasquez Chavez, died after being stabbed by a 20-year-old co-worker who according to jail records is identified as Valmir Djempsley, that stabbing took place at the Clemens Food Group processing plant on Newton Road.
Branch County emergency crews responded to the plant around 7:41 p.m., where deputies detained the suspect, and Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene despite medical intervention.
Witnesses reported a verbal altercation between the two individuals working near each other, which escalated into the suspect stabbing Chavez in the back.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Branch County Jail pending arraignment, and the homicide investigation is ongoing with assistance from state police and the medical examiner.
