BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 28-year-old Battle Creek man is dead, and a 28-year-old Battle Creek woman is hospitalized, following an early Sunday morning shooting.
Battle Creek Police arrived on scene, near North Wood Street and Laramie Court shortly before 4:30 a.m. after reports of a shooting. When they arrived, officers encountered a large gathering of people, including the two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance also responded to the scene, providing medical care and assistance to both shooting victims.
The female victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound to her lower body, where she is expected to recover from her injuries. The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the initial investigation, BCPD officers located a 57-year-old Battle Creek man near the area of the shooting, who matched descriptions provided by witnesses of the incident. The suspect was detained by officers and, after further investigation by the BCPD Detective Bureau, was arrested in connection with this shooting incident on charges of open murder, aggravated assault, and firearm-related charges.
He is lodged and awaiting arraignment at the Calhoun County Jail.
