COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County motorists should prepare for some travel delays starting next Monday, July 13, as two major road construction projects get underway.
In Union City, crews from Excell Paving Plus will begin a massive overhaul to completely rebuild North Broadway Street from the cemetery area to the Broadway Street bridge.
As one of the Village’s busiest corridors, carrying over 1.8 million vehicles annually this extensive project represents one of the largest roadway improvements in recent years and will include replacing the downtown concrete parking areas.
While drivers will face temporary road closures and traffic alterations starting in the downtown block, local businesses will remain open with uninterrupted sidewalk, surrounding street, and nearby parking access for customers.
Simultaneously, the Michigan Department of Transportation and contractor Causie Contracting Inc. will launch a $1.9 million infrastructure investment farther south in the county. Crews will repair more than 15.4 miles of I-69 spanning from the Indiana state line up to East Central Road near Kinderhook Township.
This extensive highway project involves concrete repairs, resealing concrete joints, and applying chip and fog seals to the shoulders.
Work on the interstate is expected to run through mid October, and will restrict traffic to single-lane closures.
Beyond improving ride quality and safety, state economic modeling projects that this major highway investment will directly and indirectly support 16 jobs.
