UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack will be at the Union City Fire Hall tonight at 6:00 p.m. to present information regarding the proposed August 7, 2018 jail millage and answer any questions residents may have.
The meeting is open to the public.
Wednesday’s meeting in Union City is part of an effort by Pollack and others to convince Branch County voters to approve a 20 year millage at an assessment of no more than 1.25 mills per year so that a new 184 bed jail can be built.
Pollack says the current jail is crumbling and he has complained numerous times about the overcrowding conditions.
Other information meetings will be held June 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Quincy Village Offices and July 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bronson City Offices.
Previous millage attempts for a new Branch County Jail were voted down in 2016 and 2006.
