FREMONT, IN (WTVB) – Police authorities are asking the public to stay away from the Travelers Inn on State Road 120 west of Fremont, Indiana due to a standoff.
Police were called to the motel Thursday morning just before 11:00 a.m..
Indiana State Police say a suspect fired at a Fremont police officer and missed after the officer went to a room to conduct a welfare check.
The shooting incident led to a number of police from other agencies to respond to the motel.
At last report, negotiators are being held in an attempt to end the situation peacefully.
State Road 120 has been closed for about a one mile area. The motel where the standoff is taking place at is right across 120 from the Briali Winery which used to be the Country Meadows Golf Course.
