COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved the concept of using the maintenance savings from an approved jail millage question for additional road patrol deputies during their regular meeting Tuesday.
It was pointed out during last Thursday’s work session that according to a study, it has cost Branch County $934,000 to maintain the current County Jail over the last five years compared with only $286,000 that was spend between 2008 and 2012.
If an August millage question for a new county jail passes, Sheriff John Pollack said the savings for maintenance could lead to additional deputies being placed on the road. Commissioner Don Vrablic pointed out the funds saved for maintenance would be general fund monies. He added the August millage would just be for the jail, period.
