COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council Monday night will be asked to take action on a resolution that city officials hope will lead to the Branch County Drain Office calling a ditch near the southwest industrial park a county drain.
City Manager Keith Baker says in his letter to the Council that the city has experienced drainage and flooding issues in and around the industrial park with increasing frequency and severity.
The city wants the ditch to be called a county drain because the tributary area includes multiple jurisdictions.
Baker says the city believes the proposed drain is necessary for the public health. As a property owner within the proposed district, the city would be liable for an assessment for a percentage of the cost.
Funds have been set aside by the city for its portion of a future project.
This proposed project is one of the recommendations that was outlined in the city’s recently completed Storm Water Management Plan.
