WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 64-year-old Bridgman man was killed on Tuesday, following a head-on collision on U.S. 12 near Lima Road in St Joseph counties White Pigeon Township.
Michigan State Police say, a 20-year-old White Pigeon man driving a GMC Envoy was traveling eastbound shortly after noon when he attempted to pass two vehicles.
During the passing maneuver, the SUV slammed directly into an oncoming GMC box truck, causing fatal injuries to its driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a seatbelt.
The 20-year-old driver of the GMC Envoy, who MSP say was not wearing a seatbelt, survived the collision with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Bronson Hospital.
Investigators strongly believe that drugs and alcohol were contributing factors in the deadly crash.
State troopers were assisted at the scene by multiple agencies, including the White Pigeon Fire Department and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, as the active investigation remains ongoing.
