ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A new political action committee has been established in Steuben County to campaign for a “yes” vote on an upcoming gaming referendum.
Steuben County businessmen Chuck Nedele, Mike Votaw, and Kevin Stoy announced the formation of the “Steuben Where Fun Wins Political Action Committee”.
The group filed its formal organization paperwork with the Steuben County Clerk’s Office to advocate for a proposed $500 million resort-style casino development. Supporters argue the project will secure long-term economic prosperity, inject millions in annual local tax revenue, and create roughly 1,000 regional jobs.
Nedele says “areas where other casinos are located see a huge benefit to their quality of life.” while Votaw added “Voting ‘yes’ and having the opportunity to capture casino revenue here instead of it going somewhere else is important. This vote is critical to the future success of our community.”
The push follows legislation passed by the Indiana General Assembly allowing a new inland casino license in northeast Indiana. Steuben County is competing against Allen and DeKalb counties for the single gaming license.
To secure the development, local voters must first approve a binding referendum on the November 3 general election ballot.
The ballot will present residents with the straightforward question: “Shall inland casino gambling be permitted in Steuben County?” If multiple counties pass the referendum, the final location choice will rest with the winning casino developer.
