COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – If all of this rain is getting you down, think back to what it was like last year.
There were drought-like conditions in the summer of 2017 as the lack of rain turned the grass into a crunchy brown.
Michigan State University Extension says on their web site www.enviroweather.msu.edu that Coldwater only got 7.26 inches of rain over four months between June first and the end of September.
The lack of rain led the U.S. Drought Monitor to include Branch County in an area that was considered to be abnormally dry.
But the drought eased last October when nearly five-and-a-half inches of rain fell.
It’s a different story in 2018. MSU Extension says Coldwater got 7.51 inches of rain in May and almost 11 inches since the first of April.
Out of the 31 days in May, the website www.accuweather.com says it rained in Coldwater on 14 days. That includes a 13-day stretch between May 9th and 21st in which rain was recorded on ten of those days.
By the way, with the rain Tuesday morning, it has rained five out of the last seven days. It has also rained three out of the last four weekends and guess what, more showers are in the forecast for this weekend.
