STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s 15 game winning streak and their season ended on Saturday as they were beaten by fifth-ranked Three Rivers 8-1 in the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two girls softball district tournament finals at Sturgis. The Wildcats used the long ball to eliminate Coldwater as they belted a pair of three run homers and a solo shot.
The Cardinals advanced to the finals with a 13-3 victory over Harper Creek. They finished the season with a record of 23-12.
You can call them the Comeback Comets. Jonesville won the M.H.S.A.A. girls softball district title at Bronson with a pair of dramatic walk off victories. They stunned Big 8 Conference champion Quincy 8-7 in eight innings and then rallied to defeat Union City 5-4 in the finals.
Quincy snapped a 3-3 tie against Jonesville with three runs in the top of the eighth. An RBI double by Victoria Eifred put Quincy ahead 4-3. They went up 5-3 on a dropped third strike. A single by Rylei Hollenbaugh and an error put the Orioles ahead 6-3. The Orioles got the first two outs in the last of the eighth before Jonesville put together an incredible four run rally to end Quincy’s season.
Union City advanced to the finals with a 4-3 eight inning victory over Bronson. A home run by Peyton Robinson in the top of the eighth snapped a 2-2 tie and put the Vikings ahead 3-2. But the Chargers scored twice in the bottom of the frame. Kayley DeLisle drove in the winning run with a bases loaded single.
The Chargers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the district title game. But the Comets chipped away and cut the lead to 4-3 entering the last of the seventh. They scored two runs to win the district trophy. The winning run came across home plate on a two out bases loaded walk.
