COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Remnants of subtropical storm Alberto rolled into Branch County during the dinner hour Wednesday evening.
It brought some relief after three days of near 90 degree temperatures. While no watches or warnings were issued by the National Weather Service, Alberto’s remnants of heavy rain and high winds caused a few problems.
Over 400 Consumer’s Energy customers in Branch County lost their power. That number was down to 141 customers on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, 116 customers in Calhoun County and 515 customers in Hillsdale County were still without power.
Over 10,000 customers system wide were without power Thursday morning. The utility expects power to be restored by noon.
The Branch County Memorial Airport reported a 21 MPH wind gust at 6:15 p.m. and the temperature dropped 10 degrees from 82 to 72 in 20 minutes as the stormy weather moved through. There was a 35 MPH wind gust at the airport at about 11:15 p.m., while a National Weather Service observer in Sturgis reported a 37 MPH wind gust.
