LANSING, MI (WTVB) – A battle over COVID-19 funding relief is continuing in Lansing.
The federal government is giving the State of Michigan over $5 million to fight the virus and help those who have been impacted by the pandemic.
A Republican backed $3-point-5 billion COVID-19 plan was approved by the State House on Thursday.
Over $2-billion for schools was not included unless Governor Whitmer gives up some of her authority which isn’t likely to happen.
58th District State Representative Andrew Fink supported the package saying businesses in small communities have been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 restrictions.
The plan calls for the state health department to give up its power to cancel in-person classes and sports and turn it over to local health departments during the pandemic.
As the finger pointing continues between Democrats and Republicans in Lansing, the plan as it stands now will likely be approved by the Republican controlled State Senate before it gets vetoed by Whitmer.
