COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Director Kristin Johnson tried to address funding questions that have recently been raised on social media posts and public meetings.
She said a lot of the art installed in downtown Coldwater is paid for from a grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and is not funded by taxpayers.
She added a lot of the facade updates and other improvements to the downtown area come through Tax Increment Financing funding.
Johnson said they are careful about financial decisions and if anyone has questions, they can contact her or any D.D.A. Board member.
In other business, Johnson confirmed the worst kept secret in Coldwater to the D.D.A. Board. She said the owners of Yum Yum Sushi/Hibachi plan to open up in the former Goodie Shop next month.
The Goodie Shop closed in March and was sold several days later after being a staple of downtown Coldwater for over seven decades. The new owner is from Fort Wayne who also operates a similar business in Angola.
