COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Emergency infrastructure repairs continue to cause some traffic delays along US-12 in Coldwater at the I 69 interchange as construction crews push forward on a much needed pavement smoothing project.
Overseen by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and state contractor C&D Hughes, Inc., the $291,000 initiative targets a heavily deteriorated stretch of highway running from Michigan Avenue eastward to Willowbrook Road. Motorists traveling through the east side of the city should expect single-lane closures and ongoing traffic disruptions while crews work to remove and replace crumbling, 1967-era concrete with smoother asphalt patches.
City officials emphasize that while the current roadwork causes temporary commuting headaches, it is a necessary safety intervention to combat deep potholes where standard cold-patches have repeatedly failed.
These emergency fixes are designed to sustain the highway’s functionality until a full, multi-million-dollar corridor reconstruction takes place in 2028.
Commuters are advised to slow down, exercise caution through the active work zone, and prepare for intermittent travel delays until the scheduled project completion on Friday, October 9.
