HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – Hillsdale County is mourning the loss of 1st Circuit Court Judge Sara S. Lisznyai, whose unexpected death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from local officials and members of the legal community.
First elected to the bench as a District Court judge in 2014, Lisznyai went on to win election to the 1st Circuit Court in 2020 and was running unopposed for re-election this November.
Throughout her distinguished career, she was highly regarded for balancing strict accountability with rehabilitation, serving as a passionate advocate for substance abuse treatment and recovery programs.
The timing of her passing brought a poignant note to the local justice system, occurring just hours after seven participants successfully graduated from the Hillsdale County Treatment Court under her order.
