COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Coldwater swept an Interstate 8 doubleheader from Hastings Tuesday by scores of 5-2 and 7-6. Lucas Santure and Zach Rigot were the winning pitchers. Alex Everett and Porter Skidmore earned the saves.
Austin Roby homered in the first game. Bryce Lafferty had a two run triple in the nightcap. Skidmore and Everett both had two hits.
Coldwater swept Hastings in the JV doubleheader by scores of 7-1 and 5-0.
Bronson split a doubleheader with top ranked Homer Tuesday, as Homer clinched the Big 8 Conference title for the Trojans. Bronson won the opener 5-3 but lost the nightcap 9-0. Winning pitcher Ethan Cossairt struck out eight in the first game.
Brendan Bell and Kameron Haviland both drove in two runs. Cossairt had two hits including a double in the second game. Bronson is now 25-4 overall and 11-3 in the Big 8.
Union City defeated Concord 10-6 in the first game of a scheduled Big 8 Conference doubleheader. The second game was suspended by darkness in the seventh inning with Union City leading 4-3. It is scheduled to be completed on Friday.
The Chargers rallied for seven runs in the fifth to get the victory. Colton Johns had three hits in the opener while Connor Elgan had two RBI’s. Larson Kever got the win in relief.
Girls Softball—
Coldwater extended their winning streak to 11 straight games on Tuesday as they swept an Interstate 8 doubleheader from Hastings by scores of 15-0 and 13-0. Darlene Horn and Mia Rzepka were the winning pitchers. Horn tossed a one-hitter in the opener while Rzepka had a three hit shutout in the second game.
Izzy Foley drove in three runs in the first game while Avery Milnes had three hits and Jamie Wellet had two hits. Wellet had three hits in the second game, Cheyenne Akers had three RBI’s, Sam Rodesiler drove in two runs while Tyler Scheid had a double and a triple.
Coldwater is now 19-11 overall and 7-3 in the Interstate 8.
Coldwater also swept the JV doubleheader 16-6 and 12-2. Alyssa Bach had an inside the park homerun in the second game. Emma Stanley and Nevaeh Earl were the winning pitchers.
Bronson swept a Big 8 Conference doubleheader from Homer 5-0 and 6-5. Aubrey Ballou was the winning pitcher in both games. Dakota Smith homered in the first game. Ballou, Maddie Ratkowski and Kaitlyn Czajkowski all had two hits in the second game.
Bronson is now 14-13 overall and 9-5 in the Big 8
Union City finished second in the Big 8 Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Concord by scores of 4-2 and 14-3. Allison Adams and Quinn Adams were the winning pitchers. Morgan Sanders had two hits in the first game. Autumn Carpenter had four hits in the nightcap.
Big 8 Conference champion Quincy swept a doubleheader from Springport by scores of 11-3 and 15-6. Morgan Michael and Kelsie Mainstone were the winning pitchers. Taylor Todd had three hits in the first game for Quincy. Mickala Signor had five RBI’s in the second game.
