COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council has approved farm lease agreements for its three smallest city-owned land parcels while opting to temporarily re-lease its two largest properties back to Sexton Farms LLC for one year.
The decision followed extensive council discussion regarding five city-owned tracts, which are currently farmed to preserve soil quality, prevent unlawful dumping, and utilize the properties until future development plans are finalized.
Under the approved awards, Sexton Farms secured the 3-acre Butters Avenue parcel for $390 annually, Corey and William Post won the 6.210-acre site at 231 N Angola road with a bid of $450 per year, and Matthew Avery was awarded the 46.861-acre N Willowbrook Road parcel at $8,435 annually.

Council on the motion from Councilman John Petzko elected to extend the existing lease with Sexton Farms for a single year to allow city staff time to re-word and update the lease agreement contracts.
The motion was approved by a 5-3 vote.
This temporary extension ensures operational continuity for the city’s biosolids disposal program, which heavily relies on an active, specialized application agreement already established with Sexton Farms on those specific grounds.
