COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With a light agenda, the Branch County 9-1-1 Communications Board had a chance on Wednesday to discuss the performance of weather warning sirens in the county.
Coldwater Director of Public Safety Patrick Beeman said during last month’s meeting that two of the sirens in the city were not shutting off when they were supposed to.
J and K Communications of Indiana were notified and two rounds of testing were conducted. Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker indicated to the Board on Wednesday the problems were taken care of and the sirens are now working properly.
As part of routine maintenance, eight sirens were updated recently across the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Township in order to streamline the activation system at Branch County Central Dispatch for more rapid and reliable performance.
Routine, monthly testing of the system is conducted on the first Saturday of the month with monitoring support from the Branch County Amateur Radio Club.
In addition, a second tornado siren was added by the Village of Union City in July. The Village secured the project through a specialized program offered by Calhoun County 911. The new siren was aimed at bolstering public safety following the devastating EF-3 tornado that struck the area on March 6.
