COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Rallying from a 2-1 second half deficit, the Coldwater High School girls varsity soccer team beat Hastings 3-2 Wednesday night.
Coldwater took the early lead with 27 minutes to play in the first half on a Malorie Rzepka goal, assisted by Audrey Hall. Hastings tied the score with 9 minutes left in the first half, then took a 2-1 lead 6 minutes into the second half.
Rzepka tied the score again 4 minutes later, assisted by goalkeeper Nadia Kiersey. Rzepka got the game winning goal with 14 minutes to play in the game, assisted by Elise Leggett.
Kiersey made 15 saves in goal, as the Cardinals finish the Interstate 8 Conference regular season with a 2-5 record, good for a 6th place finish. They are 3-10 overall, and will host Hastings again Monday in the first round of the I-8 Silver Division Conference Tournament.
Marshall won the conference title with a 3-0 win over Harper Creek Wednesday.
The Coldwater JV team lost to Hastings 5-1. Megan Barnes had the Cardinals lone goal, assisted by Juan Mancera.
Quincy 9, Michigan Center 1
Emily Hollenbaugh and Madison Hinds both had a hat trick as Quincy romped over Michigan Center 9-1. Katie Rathbun had two goals and three assists for the Orioles. Hannah Kaser also scored for Quincy as they improved to 12-2-1. Quincy will travel to Jonesville Friday night.
