BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council approved a five year contract extension with Republic Services on Monday night for trash, recycling and bulk item pickup in the City on Bronson.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says for a longer term extension, Republic Services was willing to lower the monthly charge per home from the current rate of $17.39 to $15.91 for the first year of the contract.
The rate would then increase three percent annually which amounts to, on average, a 50 cent increase each year.
Mersman points out that under the proposed contract it would be year four until the current rate of $17.39 would be in place.
He adds the bulk pricing would remain the same at $15 for non-appliances and $25 for appliances.
In other business, the Council passed a resolution which allows a resident taxpayer to file their protest before the Board of Review by letter without a personal appearance by the taxpayer or their agent.
They also approved the purchase of two new tasers for the Bronson Police Department. Bronson Police recently applied for and was awarded a $1,200 grant from the City’s insurance carrier, Michigan Township Participating plan, for the purchase of new tasers. The grant was the maximum amount for the tasers. Axon Enterprise has provided the City with a quote of over $2,600 for the new tasers, cartridges and batteries.
