BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school baseball, Coldwater split an Interstate 8 Conference doubleheader at Harper Creek Tuesday as they dropped the opener 14-13 but came back to win the nightcap 11-4.
Zach Rigot had a big day for the Cardinals as he smacked three two-run homers in the doubleheader. The Cardinals led 13-8 before the Beavers rallied for two runs in the last of the sixth and four in the bottom of the seventh to take the opener. Rigot had three hits while Brady Snow and Oliver Winter both had two hits.
The Cardinals bounced back in the nightcap thanks a six run fifth inning. Porter Skidmore was the winning pitcher. Rigot had four hits and five RBI’s to pace the Coldwater offense. Bryce Lafferty had three hits and two RBI’s.
Harper Creek swept the J.V. doubleheader from Coldwater at Lowe Field by scores of 3-1 and 9-6.
Union City was cooled off by top-ranked Homer on Tuesday as the Trojans took both ends of a Big 8 Conference doubleheader by scores of 7-5 and 6-0. Colton Johns had two hits in the first game while Larson Kever drove in two runs.
Homer broke open the second game with a four run seventh inning. Johns had two of the five hits for Union City.
Bronson swept a Big 8 Conference doubleheader from Reading by scores of 7-0 and 13-1. The games had to be switched to the Vikings home field due to unplayable conditions at Reading. Ethan Cossairt tossed a six-hitter and struck out nine to get the victory in game one. Bryant Behnke had two doubles and three RBI’s. Cossairt helped his own cause with a pair of RBI’s and collected his 100th career hit.
Brett Sikorski was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. Brenden Bell drove in three runs while Behnke doubled and drove in two runs. Hudson Wotta also had two RBI’s for the Vikings who are now 22-3 overall and 10-2 in the Big 8.
