Rick Robert Paul, 74, passed away in Coldwater, MI September 21, 2026,.
He fought a fierce battle against pancreatic cancer with his loving wife, Lynn, by his side.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home.
He was born in Detroit, MI, to Bob and Bernice Paul July 8, 1952. He grew up in Garden City, MI, and attended the University of Michigan, where he studied electrical engineering.
He married Lynn on June 21, 1976, and they moved to Bronson, MI, where they bought land and began farming, growing vegetables and raising animals. They later moved to Coldwater, MI, to raise their sons, Christopher and Alexander.
Rick worked at Consolidated Freightways for over 20 years and belonged to the Teamsters Union.
He is survived by his wife and sons, brothers John (Linda) and Lee (Jamie), sister-in-law Sue, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his friend and brother-in-law, Ray.
Rick was known for his smarts and his ability to fix almost anything, including whatever car the family was driving, the furnace, household appliances, and home electronics. He personally renovated the family home, creating a safe and comfortable space for his family. He had an irreverent sense of humor and was able to make a joke out of almost any situation to ease the tension.
He loved the outdoors, including deer hunting with his friend Curt, fishing with his sons, and taking the whole family camping. He also took the family on vacations to explore the natural beauty of Michigan, ride roller coasters at Cedar Point, visit Walt Disney World, and learn about NASA at Cape Canaveral.
After retirement, he was a homebody who loved spending time with his wife of 50 years, working together in their garden (starting their plants from seeds), and taking care of their fur baby, Ziggy. He and his family enjoyed gathering around the kitchen table together, eating, chatting, and playing cards late into the evening.
He’ll be remembered for his intelligence, willingness to help solve any problem, wry sense of humor, calmness, love of the outdoors, and commitment to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
