BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Harper Creek had 350 yards of rushing offense, while holding Coldwater to 103 yards on the ground, as the Beavers picked up a 38-19 Homecoming win against the Cardinals at the Ed Greenman Athletic Complex.
Coldwater got the first score of the game, on a 32-yard touchdown run by Trevor Mitchell. The Cardinals would not score again until early in the fourth, when Mitchell caught a 3-yard TD pass from Mayson Moore. Landon Dirschell added a 75-yard kickoff return for a score late. Harper Creek led 7-6 after one, 21-6 at the half, and 28-6 after three.
Moore finished 6-of-10 passing for 63 yards, a touchdown, and an interception that the Beavers returned for a score. Trevor Mitchell had 12 carries for 78 yards and two receptions for 5 yards, finishing with 92 all-purpose yards. Evan Lewis had 2 receptions for 12 yards, and Dayton Ennis added a 42-yard catch. Austin Stepp led the defense with 11 tackles, while Kameron McKinney and Ares Wagoner each had 5.
With the loss, Coldwater fell to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Interstate 8. They will host Pennfield next Friday for Purple Night.
