COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games Thursday night with a 1-1 draw at home against Mattawan in non-conference action.
Muthana Hajaji put the Cardinals on top with 24:13 to play in the first half of the game on Teacher and Staff Appreciation Night, assisted by Riath Shaamala.
Coldwater played around three quarters of the second half down a man after a player received a red card ejection after a foul on the Mattawan goalkeeper.
The Wildcats got the tying goal with 24:40 to play in the game off a direct kick.
Jensley Norvilus made six saves in goal as Mattawan outshot Coldwater 13-8.
The Cardinals are now 12-1-2 and haven’t lost since their second game of the season August 20 against Lansing Eastern, the team ranked third this week in the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division Two poll. Coldwater is ranked 12th.
Coldwater will host Chelsea Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on Senior Day to close out the regular season.
The Coldwater junior varsity team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Mattawan 4-3. The JV team will also host Chelsea Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Elsewhere, Bronson improved to 6-7-1 with a 7-3 victory at Potterville. Ithan Granados tallied six goals, William Ariza had a goal and an assist, and Cesar Uriostegui recorded three assists for the Vikings, who will close out the regular season Monday at Lenawee Christian.
