COLDWATER, Mich. — The City of Coldwater is celebrating a major milestone this year as it marks five years as a Select Level member of the Michigan Main Street (MMS) program.
Since joining the state-level revitalization initiative in 2021, Coldwater has successfully utilized the MMS framework to inject new energy into its downtown, transforming public spaces and driving economic vitality.
The impact of the program is highly visible across the city’s historic district, which achieved official certification as a Redevelopment Ready Community in February 2026, further streamlining future development.
Over the past five years, the local Main Street program has served as a powerful economic engine, helping Coldwater welcome 20 new businesses and complete 32 façade and building rehabilitations.
Supported by over $2.8 million in private investment and nearly 2,000 community volunteer hours, the city has strategically acquired and redeveloped key historic properties.
Notable successes include bringing the Children’s Museum of Branch County downtown and establishing a thriving public art program, supported by a June 2025 Main Street Vibrancy grant, which has activated the district through new murals, sculptures, and popular community events like Hops on Monroe.
