ONSTED, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys finished second while the Coldwater girls were first on Friday at the Onsted Invitational.
Addison won the boys meet with 137 points followed by Coldwater with 103. Dylan Targgart won both the shot put and discus for the Cardinals. Coldwater took the top three spots in the shot put as Cole Targgart and Zach Gipple finished second and third. Cole Targgart was also second in the discus while Matt Gipple was third in the long jump. Jacob Carr was third in the 800 while Kyle Foulk was second in the 1600 and the 3200. Coldwater finished third in the 1600 relay. Some members of the Coldwater boys track team competed at the Golden Triangle Festival meet in Saline which featured nearly 50 teams in various divisions. Shuaib Aljabaly was fourth in the Elite 3200 with a time of 9:12.58.
In the girls meet at Onsted, Coldwater brought home the first place trophy with 133 points followed by Onsted with 123 ½. Coldwater winners were Kathy Potter in the 800 and the 3200, Elka Machan in the 1600 and Malorie Rzepka in the high jump. Machan was second in the 3200, Jasmine Wellet was second in the 100 hurdles, Kaci White was second in the shot put and discus and Claire Sheppard was second in the high jump. Coldwater won the 3200 relay.
In boys golf, Coldwater finished sixth out of 16 teams on Friday at the Western Invitational hosted by Parma Western at the Arbor Hills Golf Course in Jackson. Hanover Horton won the event with a team score of 318 while Coldwater shot a 346. Coldwater was led by Alec Keplinger who shot an 81 which was good enough for a tie for seventh place. Noah Waterbury had an 86, Tanner Jent shot an 89, Grey Skudlarick had a 90 and Kyle Herman rounded out the scoring with a 94.
In girls tennis, Coldwater dropped a 6-2 non-conference match at Battle Creek Lakeview on Friday. The two Cardinal points came from the number from the number one doubles team of Samantha Youse and Gabby Boston as they won a third set tiebreaker and from the number two doubles team of Faith Herendeen and Melissa Vozar as they also won in three sets. Next week will be busy for the Coldwater girls tennis team. They will have their last home match Monday against Hastings. Then they will have three road matches. They will play at Harper Creek on Tuesday, at Kalamazoo Central on Wednesday and at Marshall on Thursday.
On today’s Branch County high school sports schedule, in baseball, it’s the Quincy Invitational, Union City travels to the Gobles Invitational, and Bronson travels to the Leslie Invitational.
In track, Union Ctiy and Bronson are at the Quincy Invitational.
In girls soccer, it’s the Quincy Invitational, and Coldwater will be hosting their own Invitational, taking on Chelsea at 9 a.m., with Linden facing off against Otsego at 10:15 a.m.. The third place game will be played at 12:15 p.m. with the championship game taking place at 1:30 p.m..
In girls softball, it’s the Quincy Invitational, Coldwater travels to the Leslie Blackhawk Invitational, Union City is at the Gobles Invitational, and Bronson is at the Northview Invitational.
In girls tennis, Bronson travels to Niles Brandywine, and in boys golf, Quincy is at the Clinton Invitational.
