Robert Glenn “Bob” Betts, 86, of Coldwater passed away Thursday, October 15, 2026, at his home.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place with a memorial service to be held at Northview Christian Church at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
He was born May 24, 1940 to Glenn and Carlotta (Mead) Betts in Corry, PA. December 24, 1994, Bob married Laura Davis, and she survives.
A true patriot with an unwavering love for his country, Bob proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force for more than 30 years, achieving the distinguished rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His military career was a testament to his dedication, leadership, and steadfast commitment to serving something greater than himself. Bob carried the values of honor, integrity, and service with him throughout his life, leaving a legacy of which his family and country can be immensely proud.
While his military service was a defining accomplishment, Bob’s heart for serving others extended far beyond his years in uniform. A man of strong faith, he was a devoted member of Northview Christian Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon.
His commitment to his community was equally remarkable, having served as president of the Branch County Literacy Council and as a board member of the Branch County Commission on Aging. For 25 years, Bob also generously shared his time and knowledge as the familiar and dependable “computer guy” at the Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing his expertise, or simply lending a listening ear, Bob found great purpose in making a difference in the lives of others.
Beyond his many accomplishments and contributions, Bob was a genuinely warm and personable man who never knew a stranger. He had a natural gift for connecting with people, making friends wherever he went, and leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.
He enjoyed traveling, working with computers, expressing his creativity through oil painting, and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. Yet, of all the things that brought Bob happiness, none meant more to him than the love and companionship of his family and the relationships he cherished throughout his life.
Bob lived a life marked by service, guided by faith, and enriched by the people he loved. He was a proud American, a dedicated community servant, and above all, a loving family man whose kindness, generosity, and welcoming spirit will be deeply missed. His was a life well-lived, a legacy worth honoring, and a memory that will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Laura Betts of Coldwater, Bob leaves behind his children Robert (Wendy) Betts, Jr. of Kokomo, IN, Michael (Wiona) Porath of Pasadena, MD, James (Pamela) Porath of Peoria, AZ; his sister Jayne (Larry) Tucci of Pleasantville, PA; his 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and his loving nephew and niece Jason (Angela) Blair of Coldwater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Carol Craker and Jean VanTassel, and his brother Richard Betts.
Memorials may be directed to Northview Christian Church in Coldwater.
