COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted during their Thursday work session to being forward to next week’s meeting a resolution on the ballot language for a new county jail.
A millage question will be posed to Branch County voters during the August 7, 2018 primary election on whether or not they want to pay up to 1.25 mills per year for the next 20 years so that a new jail can be built.
County Administrator Bud Norman said just like in 2016, there could be informational meetings leading up to the August vote.
If voters say yes to the millage question, the new jail would be built on land west of the current facility.
If approved and levied in full, the millage will raise just over $1,789,000 in the first year of the levy based on taxable value.
