COLDWAATER, MI (WTVB) – Not seasonally adjusted jobless rates dropped across all 18 Michigan labor market areas in September driven by typical seasonal hiring as schools and universities resumed for the fall semester.
According to the latest data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, Michigan’s overall not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.8 percent, a decrease of 0.4 percentage points from August.
Statewide workforce totals receded as 78 of Michigan’s 83 counties demonstrated localized unemployment rate reductions over the month.
Branch County boasted one of the lowest rates in the state holding steady at 3.6 percent more than a full percentage point below the state average, while Hillsdale County stood at 4.7 percent and St. Joseph County tracked at 4.4 percent that was down .08 compared to August.
Calhoun County registered a 4.6 percent unemployment rate for September, down a substantial 0.7 percentage points from August’s 5.3 percent, positioning it just below the state average.
Given the median statewide county decline of 0.6 percentage points in September, these local labor markets continue to demonstrate positive momentum relative to the broader 4.8 percent state benchmark.
