COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – We are still five weeks out but forecasters are already looking at next months Thanksgiving holiday week, and are serving up a mixed plate of weather predictions for Southern Michigan and Branch County.
According to the newly released holiday outlooks, residents preparing for the November 26, Thanksgiving holiday will need to plan around a seasonal chill.
The Farmers’ Almanac says that the Great Lakes region will lean distinctly colder and more winter-like, bringing a threat of scattered snow showers and flurries that could spark minor travel slowdowns.

In contrast, the rival Old Farmer’s Almanac details a slightly messier scenario for the Lower Lakes, predicting that a volatile mix of both rain and snow will dominate the holiday week alongside a persistent, cool nip.

On a national scale, both publications agree that while holiday travelers should remain cautious, a massive coast-to-coast storm is highly unlikely.
The Farmers’ Almanac terms the nationwide setup “more typical than turbulent,” mapping out a cool and dry East Coast, a mild and pleasant Southeast, light snow across the Plains, and rainy late-fall conditions in the Pacific Northwest.
Meanwhile, the Old Farmer’s Almanac paints a highly varied canvas across the country. It explicitly projects an extended swath of snow stretching all the way from the Upper Midwest into the Northeast, while promising bright sunshine for holiday revelers down in the Southwest, High Plains, and Deep South.
