COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a request from Sheriff Fred Blankenship on Thursday to purchase a rescue boat and an emergency response Utility Terrain Vehicle for just over $103,000.
The funds would come from the community enrichment grants associated with the Coldwater Township solar projects.
The Rescue One Connector Boat would cost just under $54,000. Blankenship says it can be used in shallow water and difficult to access areas for rescues and victim recoveries. It’s also designed to make patrols on rivers and smaller lakes more accessible.
The U.T.V. along with an enclosed trailer would cost about $49,000. The Sheriff’s Department plans to use it where traditional emergency vehicles can not travel. Situations where it can be used include search-and-rescue operations, severe weather responses and emergency personnel deployment.
Commissioners are expected to take formal action on the request during their Tuesday meeting.
