QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Madison Hinds was the second half hero, as the Quincy High School girls soccer team won the annual Battle of the Birds Saturday night, beating Coldwater 2-1.
Hinds scored both goals on long direct kicks after Coldwater fouls. The final came with 7:08 to play in the game. Malorie Rzepka scored the Cardinals lone goal with one second to play in the first half, after a long punt from goalkeeper Nadia Kiersey, who picked up the assist.
Kiersey made four saves in goal for Coldwater, while Torrey Swift made five for the Orioles.
It was the first win for the Orioles in the trophy game series since it began six years ago.
Coldwater is now 1-6 on the season and will play at Marshall in Interstate 8 Conference action Monday.
