MATTESON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the discovery of a dead man’s body early Friday afternoon in Matteson Township in the area of Parham and Lindley Roads.
Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler says a farmer tilling some ground discovered the body in a wooded area.
A call was made to Branch County 911 at about 1:10 p.m.
It’s not known how long the body had been at that location or how old the man was.
Eichler says an autopsy will be conducted Saturday in Grand Rapids to determine the identity of the man and if there was any foul play involved in the death.
Investigators cleared the scene at about 4:30 p.m.. The Sheriff’s Department received assistance from Bronson Police and Branch County Medical Examiner Doctor Troy Davis. Anybody with information is asked to call the Branch County Sheriff’s Department at (517) 278-2325.
The discovery of the body has caused much speculation on social media and it comes less than two months after Bronson Police Chief Stephen Johnson announced that 40-year-old Brad Alan Washburn was missing. Other than asking for help from the public in early March, Johnson did not release specific details of Washburn’s disappearance because he said the integrity of the investigation had to be protected.
