COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Coldwater dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Sturgis Thursday at Lowe Field by scores of 16-12 and 7-5. Coldwater came back in the first game from an 8-0 deficit to tie the contest at 11-11 before the Trojans went on to the victory.
The Cardinals are now 6-10.
Quincy lost both ends of a doubleheader at Brooklyn Columbia Central by scores of 9-3 and 8-6. The sweep dropped the Orioles record to 5-10.
Union City swept Athens by scores of 15-6 and 8-2 as they stretched their winning streak to six games and improved their record to 7-5. The Chargers got home runs from Larson Kever in the opener and from Colton Johns in the nightcap. Connor Elgan and Brendan Stuchell were the winning pitchers.
Girls Softball—
Coldwater swept Sturgis 10-0 and 13-3 as they improved to 6-8. Darlene Horn and Mia Rzepka were the winning pitchers. Horn threw a one hit shutout in the opener with eight strikeouts. Rzepka had two hits including a triple in the opener. Horn drove in three runs in the second game while Tyler Scheid drove in two.
The Coldwater J.V. team also swept their doubleheader over Sturgis by scores of 19-6 and 24-5.
Quincy swept Brooklyn Columbia Central 8-5 and 17-4. Morgan Michael and Kelsey Mainstone were the winning pitchers. Mickala Signor had three hits in the first game and drove in five runs in the nightcap. Rylei Sunday homered in the second game.
The J.V. Orioles also swept their doubleheader by scores of 16-1 and 26-0.
Bronson swept Addison 9-4 and 17-7 as they improved to 7-5. Aubrey Ballou was the winning pitcher in both games. Dakota Smith had three hits while Kaitlyn Czajkowski drove in three runs in the opener. Payton Robinson had three hits including two doubles in the second game. She also drove in four runs and stole four bases.
Union City swept Athens 12-5 and 6-3. Allison Adams was the winning pitcher in both games. Autumn Carpenter had eight hits in the twinbill, four in each game.
