Stanley Lee Moore, 78, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at his son’s home, surrounded by family, under the care of Elara Caring Hospice.
A private graveside service will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta with a public burial with military honors to be held at a later date. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
Stan was born on May 15, 1941 in Lansing, MI to Donald and Margaret (Burk) Moore. He graduated from Athens High School in 1959. He went on to serve our country in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963, and after discharge, Stan went on to play football for the University of Michigan. On June 10, 1961 he married the former Nancy Sigler in Battle Creek. They had been married for 57 years at the time she preceded him in death (2019). Stan was a self-employed journeyman carpenter, working in business partnership with his friend, Neil Applegate. When not working, Stan enjoyed camping, hunting, motorcycling, engaging with friends and family and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He was a very loving and caring man who will be truly missed.
Survivors include Stan’s children, Tim (Bethany) Moore of Athens, April (Brad Greenfield) Moore of Dexter and Scot (Susan) Moore of Three Rivers; grandchildren, Lucas Moore, Seth Greenfield, Shane Greenfield, Abigail Moore and Emily Moore; step-grandchildren Nate Dunn, Brandon Dunn, Sarah Parker, Sam Wheeler, Joe Wheeler and Jillayne Wheeler; and step-great-grandson Aiden Parker; siblings Annette (Bill) Borner of Athens, Arnold (Judy) Martin of Athens and Gary (Sharon) Martin of Georgia.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Stan was preceded in death by his parents.
