QUICY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles girls high school soccer Most Valuable Player this season was junior Cailyn Hines, who was selected by her fellow teammates for the honor presented at this week’s annual awards banquet. Also receiving team awards were senior Liz Counterman, Offensive Player of the Year, freshman Hannah Kaser, Defensive Player of the Year, junior Julia Hildebrand, named Most Improved and freshman Payton Hines was voted as Ms. Hustle.
All District First Team members included Hines, who set the school’s single season record for goals with 25; Counterman, who added 22 goals; and senior Gaby Masson, recognized for her strong mid-field play all year. Honorable Mention All-District were Kaser and sophomore mid-fielder Ally Parrish.
The Independent Soccer League All-Conference first team included Masson and Counterman while Kaser and Hines were named to the second team and sophomore Haley Bean was named honorable mention. The Battle Creek Enquirer named Counterman and Hines to their All-Area Team. The Orioles finished with a 9-10-and-2 record, ending their season with a loss in the District semi-finals.
In summer league baseball, Coldwater’s Mickey Mantle team split a doubleheader last night with Jonesville in a pair of five inning games. Jonesville won the opener 2-0 before Coldwater took the nightcap 6-2. In the first game, both teams each managed just one hit. Cameron Barnes went the distance in taking the loss. In game two, Sean Printke pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts. On offense, Barnes had two singles and two RBI’s while Caleb Letendre had an RBI triple and Bryce Barringer added a double with an RBI. Coldwater’s record on the season is now 7-2.
