UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A Gofundme page has been set up to help with the medical bills for a Union City High School student who was badly injured in a Calhoun County traffic accident last weekend.
16-year-old Tobey Austin was getting ready to enter his senior year at Union City where he was a three sport athlete.
Instead, he is at Borgess Medical Center recovering from numerous injuries which could mean months of therapy.
He was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old girl who claimed she swerved to avoid a deer on U Drive South in Burlington Township and struck a tree on Sunday afternoon.
Austin was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was flown to Borgess while the girl was rushed to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital with a concussion. Her name has not been released.
It’s hoped $10,000 can be raised to help with Austin’s medical expenses. Nearly $2,300 has been raised so far.
