COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County High School hoops, Coldwater’s Boys Basketball team improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Interstate 8 with a 62-44 win over Parma Western. Coldwater led 29-20 halftime lead and put the contest away with a 18-9 fourth quarter.
McDonald’s Player of the Game Brady Beckhusen led the Cardinals with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Dylan Targgart had 13 points and six rebounds.
What a way for Bronson to open up Big 8 Conference play in boys basketball. Bronson improved to 4-0 overall as they outscored Union City 9-0 in the second overtime as they defeated the Chargers 73-64.
Union City rallied after being down 23-9 after the first quarter in the conference opener for both teams. The Chargers were up by one point late in the first overtime but Larson Kever fouled Wyatt Heal with a tenth of a second left. A technical foul was called on Union City Coach Ben Chard but Bronson only converted one out of four foul shots to send the game into double overtime. Two starters for Union City fouled out in the second overtime as the Vikings pulled away for the win.
Larson Kever finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Chargers while Grady Kever had 12 points and six rebounds. Zack Woodard added 10 points. Bronson was led by Ethan Cossart with 17 points while Brenden Bell had 16 points and Heal had 13 points.
Quincy built a 40-26 halftime lead as they won their Big 8 opener over Concord, 68-54. The win improved Quincy’s record to 3-0. Will Dunn had a game-high 27 points for Quincy as he was 14 out of 19 at the foul line. Drew Deaton had 11 points thanks to three triples.

In Girls Basketball, Coldwater improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Interstate 8 with a 62-28 win over Parma Western. The Lady Cards led 21-9 after one quarter and 35-12 at the half.
Carlee Crabtree led Coldwater with 18 points while Olivia Foley had 11 points. Cris Fontacha had seven points and four steals, Malorie Rzepka had six points, seven steals and four assists and Tyler Scheid had four points and seven rebounds.
Bronson improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Interstate 8 with a 45-21 win over Union City. With the loss, the Chargers are now 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Bronson jumped out to a 13-1 lead after the first quarter and they led 26-8 at the half.
Keona Salesman led a balanced Bronson attack with 10 points. Danielle Cross led the Chargers with seven points while Paige Kline had five rebounds.
Quincy suffered their first loss of the season, losing to Concord, 58-50, as they dropped to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big 8. Concord led 24-21 at the half and built their lead to 45-38 after the third quarter. An injury to Payton Hines made it tough on the Orioles as they attempted to rally.
Katie Rathbun led the Orioles with 22 points which included four triples. Madison Hinds scored all 13 of her points in the second half. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Cailyn Cook had six assists.
