COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The cold snap to close out 2017 has resulted in record low temperatures for Coldwater over the last couple of mornings.
The official low for Thursday morning at the Branch County Memorial Airport was 11 degrees below zero.
According to the web site www.intellicast.com, that breaks the old record of 10 below set back in 1924.
Wednesday’s low of 10 below also broke the record low of eight below set in 1950.
The coldest temperature ever recorded in Coldwater during the month of December was 17 below on December 15, 1917.
The all time record low for Coldwater took place on January 4, 1981 when the mercury dropped to 23 degrees below zero.
It’s cold all over. Marshall got down to 13 below on Thursday morning while it was nine below in Battle Creek, 14 below in Big Rapids, 10 below in Grand Rapids, 12 below in Ionia and nine below in Kalamazoo.
In case you were worried we were going to run out of cold air, the National Weather Service says another arctic blast will send temperatures below zero on New Year’s Eve. Dangerously cold wind chills are also expected during the holiday weekend.
