COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Despite the sultry temperatures in the upper 80’s, overflow crowds were on hand In Quincy and at Cardinal Field in Coldwater as the Quincy and Coldwater High School classes of 2017 graduated on Sunday.
A total of 91 Quincy High School seniors received their diplomas. Organizers tried to keep Quincy graduation activities as normal as possible this year despite all of the problems the district has endured in recent months following the arrest of former teacher Jason Ferrell on sexual assault charges. While Superintendent Craig Artist and high school principal David Spalding were placed on paid administrative leave last month by the school board, the diplomas were signed before the controversy erupted.
It took 33 minutes for all 203 Coldwater High School graduates to receive their diplomas.
Kayle Riley was named the class salutatorian while Emma Grife was the class valedictorian.
Eric Bach receives the John Vance Award for Character and Achievement.
Retiring Athletic Director Diane Vandenhout and 43 year teacher John Petzko were thanked for their years of service before the diplomas are handed out.
