BETHEL TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – There was a hunting accident in Branch County Sunday morning shortly after Michigan’s archery deer season opened.
911 Central Dispatch confirmed someone was hurt in a fall from a tree stand and suffered leg injuries in the mishap in Bethel Township. It was reported around 7:45 a.m. in a field south of US 12 and east of Cavanaugh Road.
The Bronson Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance responded to the scene. No further details are available.
Michigan’s bow deer hunting season is from October 1 to November 14, 2017, and also during the month of December. The regular firearm season in the state starts on November 15 and runs to November 30.
Meanwhile, Indiana Conservation Officers say a deer hunter fell 16 feet from a tree stand Sunday morning in the Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area.
Two nearby archery hunters heard someone yelling and followed the voice to where 33-year-old Brent Chester of Albion, Indiana was laying injured at the bottom of the tree where his tree stand was located.
Indiana Conservation Officer Jake Carlile rendered first aid until Steuben County EMS arrived.
Chester was later flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne after he suffered internal injuries.
Conservation Officers say he was not wearing a safety harness.
