MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys soccer team knocked off top ranked and previously unbeaten Dexter 2-0 Thursday night to advance to the MHSAA Regional Finals Saturday night at Marshall. The Cardinals will face Stevensville Lakeshore, who beat Plainwell 2-1 in overtime in the other semifinal.
After a scoreless first half, Mohamed Nagi scored the first goal of the game just one minute into the second half. His twin brother Nasser sealed the victory with a goal with 6:44 to play in the game.
Balal Nasser made three saves in goal to earn his 15th shutout of the season, as Coldwater outshot Dexter 4-3. Before last night’s game, Dexter had only given up one goal all season.
Coldwater’s record now is 21-3-1. Saturday night’s matchup will be at 6:00 p.m. at Marshall High School. The winner will advance to play Holland next Wednesday in the state semi finals. Holland beat Grand Rapids Christian 2-0 Thursday to capture their regional title.
