MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys soccer team is headed to the MHSAA state semi finals, after winning their first ever regional title Saturday night, beating Stevensville Lakeshore 1-0 at Marshall High School.
Tyler Kooi got the lone goal of the game with about 11 minutes to play in the first half on a shot from 25 yards out that went through the hands of the Lakeshore goalkeeper. Shaif Ahmed was credited with the assist.
The Cardinals were able to keep Lakeshore off the board for their 16th shutout of the season, as Balal Nasser made three saves in goal. It was the fourth shutout in five games of the postseason for Coldwater.
The Cardinals, now 22-3-1 on the season, will face Holland High School Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Portage Northern High School. Coldwater finished the regular season ranked #7 in Division Two by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association, while Holland was ranked #8. The other two Final Four teams, East Lansing and Farmington Hills Harrison, were both unranked.
