DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – The Detroit Tigers host the Minnesota Twins tonight in the first of a three-game series at Comerica Park. Jordan Zimmermann gets the start for Detroit in the opener, while Minnesota counters with Ervin Santana.
The Tigers are 47-and-68 on the season and in third place in the AL Central, 17-and-a-half games behind the division-leading Indians.
The Tigers are getting set to retire the number-47 of former ace Jack Morris. The newly-inducted member of the Baseball Hall of Fame will have his number retired in a ceremony on Sunday before Detroit’s game with Minnesota.
Morris won World Series titles with Detroit, Minnesota and twice with Toronto. He ended his 18-year career with 254 wins. He was the American League strikeout leader in 1983 and pitched a no-hitter with the Tigers in 1984.
Morris was inducted into the Hall of Fame last month with his 1984 World Series champion teammate Alan Trammell. Trammell’s number-3 will be retired August 26th.
