DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias will undergo an MRI today after he left yesterday’s 9-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals with an abdominal strain. Iglesias had a single and scored in the first inning, but was replaced by Ronny Rodriguez in the fourth.
The infielder says the issue had been bothering him for a couple of days before he aggravated it yesterday. Iglesias is batting.269 with 31 doubles, five home runs, 48 RBI and 15 stolen bases this season.
The Tigers have released their 2019 spring training schedule. Detroit will play an exhibition game against Southeastern University February 22, they open Grapefruit League play on the road against the Toronto Blue Jays February 23. The Tigers will host the Philadelphia Phillies in the Joker Marchant Stadium opener February 24.
Detroit will travel to Fort Meyers for the first time in 10 years to play the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox March 11 and 12. They wrap up the spring slate with a game against the Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg March 26, 2019.
