QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater and Hillsdale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored local essay winners at their annual Good Citizens Tea held November 17 at the Quincy Methodist Church.
A total of 14 schools across Hillsdale and Branch Counties took part in the Good Citizens Award this year.
The administration of each school chose an outstanding senior of who exemplifies Dependability, Service, Leadership and Patriotism. The students were then invited to compete in the local essay contest.
The essay title was “Our American Heritage and Responsibility for preserving it”.
The winner of the local contest was Gretchen Birzer of Hillsdale Academy. Her essay will be forwarded to the State and possibly the National contest.
Local Good Citizens Awards were presented to the following students: Emily Kimball, Hillsdale High School; Bryce Bucklin, Bronson High School; Roy Bowman, Jonesville High School; Brayden Shoemaker, Litchfield High School; Anna Baker, Waldron High School; Drake Crabbs. Quincy High School; Olivia Granger, Pansophia Academy; Selena Hostetler, Coldwater High School; Casandra Love, North Adams High School; Kelsey Moyer, Pittsford High School; Lacy Anne Saunders, Will Carleton Academy; Madison Vondran, Camden Frontier High School and Joseph Weidmayer, Reading High School.
